Game2Work members Dr. Cassandra Rutherford and Dr. Alenka Poplin are working with Dr. Beena Ajmera, Dr. Alyssa Emery, and Justin Sabrowsky on this project. They seek to improve students’ knowledge of geotechnical engineering principles, engineering employability skills, and attitudes through game development.
The research is based on these key ideas:
• Game-based learning (GBL) engages learners by applying gaming principles to real-life settings. It can be implemented in various ways such as designing coursework as a game or having students develop games around a specific topic.
• Incorporating game development in engineering courses can help students acquire technical knowledge, as well as other skills such as communication, leadership, and teamwork.
The research focuses on evaluating the impact of the curriculum on student learning outcomes, professional skills, and motivation.
